Summary

VPI Rye House are looking for an apprentice to join their team. Candidates should be confident, keen, enthusiastic, and committed, with a positive attitude to work. This is an ideal opportunity to learn all aspects of production maintenance within the thermal power generation industry and achieve an Advanced Apprenticeship qualification.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

You will undertake Level 3 Engineering Technician Standard Apprenticeship: - Pathway 13.

During this three-year programme, you will undertake 'off the job' training at Harlow College to develop sector-specific skills. The remaining duration will be spent on-site at Rye House Power Station where you will receive specific on-the-job training by an experienced mentor/supervisor/line manager.

You will also be supported by a dedicated assessor who will guide and mentor you throughout your apprenticeship

Engineering Technicians are predominantly involved in highly skilled, complex work and must, as a minimum be able to:

  • Apply safe systems of working.
  • Make a technical contribution to either the design, development, quality assurance, manufacture, installation, commissioning, decommissioning, operation or maintenance of products, equipment, systems, processes or services.
  • Apply proven techniques and procedures to solve engineering/manufacturing problems.
  • Demonstrate effective interpersonal skills in communicating both technical and non-technical information.
  • Have a commitment to continued professional development.

Engineering Technicians take responsibility for the quality and accuracy of the work they undertake within the limits of their personal authority. They also need to be able to demonstrate a core set of behaviours in order to be competent in their job role, complement wider business strategy and development. This will enable them to support their long-term career development.

Successful achievement of the end-point assessment will lead to final certification of the apprenticeship.

  • Level 2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Foundation Competence).
  • Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Competence) – Technical Support.
  • Level 3 Diploma or Extended Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge).
