What you will do in your working day

Daily tasks include:

  • Operate CNC machinery accurately and efficiently to produce components parts to the required production standards
  • Load/unload the machines, allocating materials received to internal jobs
  • Programme, set and operate machines
  • Measure components using standard measuring equipment
  • Read engineering drawings, identifying features that are being manufactured
  • Change inserts/tooling as and when necessary
  • Ensure materials are ready and by the machine when setting up a component
  • Label manufacturing parts for traceability into production
  • Keep working areas clean and tidy, carrying out routine maintenance
  • Problem solving
  • To be a part of continuous improvement

The training you will be getting

This is a level 3 Machinist apprenticeship which will delivered over a 4 year period. The apprentice will be required to attend the training centre, In-Comm Training Services in Aldridge, WS9 8UG, 2.5 days per week for the first two years as part of the training.

Qualifications include;

  • EAL L3 Extended diploma in Machining (Development Knowledge)
  • Pearson BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Machining) (Development Technical Knowledge)
  • City and Guilds Machining technician (1273)
