What you will do in your working day

Working as part of this important team you will be required to carry out the following duties (the nature of the Academy Year requires some tasks to be done regularly whilst others annually):

  • Deliver planned activities for individuals and groups to allocated pupils, in small groups or individually, differentiating and adapting learning programmes to suit individual need (under the professional direction and supervision of a qualified teacher)
  • Plan and evaluate specialist learning activities, prepare reports and records for the teacher
  • Promote outstanding pupil behaviour for learning and support social and emotional well-being, reporting any problems to the teacher and/or child
  • Protection Lead (as appropriate and in line with school policies
  • Promote and support the role of parent/carers in pupils’ learning and enabling constructive information sharing about progress and achievement

The training you will be getting

  • You will work towards the completion of a Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship Level 3
  • Functional Skills in English and maths if required

Training will be delivered face to face, online and through webinars. The school will provide in house training.

What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship

  • You could be employed as a Teaching Assistant and progress to become a Learning Mentor or Higher-Level Teaching Assistant
  • An apprenticeship allows you to earn a wage, gain valuable work experience and industry specific competence

About the employer

Chellaston is a friendly primary academy on the outskirts of Chellaston, near Derby. The Executive Principal is Mrs Trail. We opened in September 2019 with Reception and Year 3. Each year we will grow in size as we welcome additional year groups. Once we are full, children are welcomed from early years through to 11, there will be 210 children on roll.
