What you will do in your working day

  • Learning about mechanical, electrical and public health design as well as other areas such as acoustic, lighting and sustainability
  • You will have the opportunity to work as part of the wider interdisciplinary team, which includes: Architecture, Civil and Structural Engineering, Landscape Architecture, Town Planning, Urbanisim, Design Management and Interior Design
  • You will be part of our design team, and no two days will be the same.  Our current projects cover a wide range of building projects including offices, universities/schools, hospitals/laboratories, sports and leisure facilities and historic buildings
  • Alongside your training at university you will be taught how to use computer modelling packages such as Revit, IES, ElectricalOM
  • Attend meetings both in the studio and on-site
  • Partake in internal and external training sessions

The training you will be getting

  • Qualification you will achieve is: BEng degree and IEng (Incorporated Engineer) Professional Qualification with Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineering
  • You will attend: University of Lancashire 
  • Training type: One day a week, remaining four days in the studio. 
  • You will be based at: BDPs Manchester Studio, Piccadilly Basin, M1 2JB

What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship

Level 6 BEng Building Services Engineering Apprenticeship and also gaining IEng with the Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineering (CIBSE).

Things to consider

A design engineer will be mainly office based and working on design drawings using packages, that will be taught, in Revit, BIM, IES and ElectricalOM.
