What you will do in your working day

  • Day to day maintenance of Food Manufacturing Machinery 
  • Reading and understanding technical and electrical drawings to aid with fault finding and resolution.
  • Diagnose and determine the cause of faults in electrical and mechanical plant and equipment.
  • Repair, maintain, service, and test food production equipment including machinery.
  • Replace, repair or remove components within equipment and ensure its return to operational condition.
  • Identify and assist with the implementation of continuous improvement within the factories’ operation. Helping to ensure that plant and equipment run efficiently, smoothly and safely, minimising downtime.
  • Complying with all health and safety legislation.
  • Completing daily work sheets and general record keeping. Help to maintain mechanical and electrical parts and spares, sourcing and ordering supplies.
  • Work closely with the engineering manager and other engineering colleagues and other essential departments.

The training you will be getting

For the full apprenticeship, candidates will complete:  
Level 3 Engineering Technician Apprenticeship Standard- Mechatronics Maintenance Technician pathway: 
Level 2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Foundation Competence). 
Level 2 Award for Foundation Phase Gateway Assessment. 
Level 3 Diploma or Extended Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge). 
Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing & Engineering (Development Competence)- Mechatronic Maintenance Technician. 
For the End Point Assessment (EPA) apprentices will undertake a viva interview (to check occupational competence), a portfolio of evidence and professional competence against the EngTech standard. 
Apprentices must attend college sessions one day per week at the Ipswich Road campus, located near Norwich city centre. 

What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship

A position may be available for the right candidate following successful completion of the apprenticeship. The business is looking for a person who is keen to develop and to gain a permanent position following completion of their apprenticeship.
