Dots 'n' Spots Day Nursery are looking to recruit a passionate individual as a nursery practitioner. Under the supervision of the manager and the board of directors/trustees the practitioner will follow the lead of the other practitioners in caring for the children. You can complete a level 2 or 3 Early Years qualification depending on experience.

What you will do in your working day

Responsibilities include:

  • To assist the staff in the day to day running of the nursery and out of school club.
  • To maintain appropriate procedures and documentation ensuring that the business adheres to all regulations.
  • To ensure good communication and relations are achieved with parents staff and management at all times.
  • To attend all unit/staff meetings at all times.
  • To ensure the daily attendance record of the children and staff is accurate and complete.
  • To assist management in implementing the organisation’s Health and Safety plan, policies and safety procedures to ensure the safety at all times of children, staff, trainees and visitors.
  • To ensure that all individual learning journeys (observations), planning, and daily documentation including registers, accident books and check sheets are kept up to date.
  • Administer first aid when needed to children and staff, ensure and that the administering of medication procedure is followed at all times and records are kept.
  • To establish strong links with parents and relevant professionals regarding the holistic care of children, this may involve providing reports, attending meetings with the support of the management.
  • To work with parents/carers to provide parents/careers with home learning.
  • To liaise with the nursery SENCO and share relevant information regarding the needs of the child.
  • To assist in the safe drop off and collection of children from school ensuring the nursery ‘Outing Policy’ is adhered to at all times.
  • To undertake any training identified by the Childcare Development Manager and Board of Directors/Trustees.
  • To be aware of safeguarding children at all times and if any concerns arise to follow the settings procedure. All information must remain CONFIDENTIAL at all times.
  • On occasions to cook in the absence of the Nursery Cook, also prepare and handle children’s snacks following set procedures.
  • To report at the first opportunity any complaints or causes for concern to management.
  • To ensure the nursery & out of school club is opened and locked securely, following the locking up procedure.
  • To undertake any such other duties as may be required commensurate with the post.
