What you will do in your working day

Duties will include (but are not limited to):

  • Assisting with the planning and delivery of learning activities
  • Accompanying teachers and pupils on out of school activities
  • Attending to students’ personal needs (including social issues, health, hygiene, first aid and other welfare matters)
  • Preparing resources and supporting with the display of students’ work
  • Administering routine tests eg reading age tests and supporting in exams
  • Working flexibly under the direction of a team leader and working with a variety of colleagues and students
  • Liaising with parents and carers under the direction of a teacher or team leader
  • Working with a variety of staff and students in different settings eg literacy, nurture, autism, in-class support.

You will assist a range of teachers and inclusion staff in various settings and provisions including overseeing the progression of students’ academic pathways, understanding their SEND/SEMH needs and liaising with parents.

This comprehensive grounding will enable you to choose which area you would like to specialise in. You will work as part of a supportive team and we will enable you to explore the areas in which you would like to develop.

The post includes time ‘off the job’ to ensure you have the opportunity to broaden your knowledge and experience.

The training you will be getting

Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship Standard:

  • Delivered by our chosen Training Provider
  • The training will be delivered in the workplace over an 18-month period
  • As well as supporting the work required for the qualification, the school offers a full induction programme and all apprentices have a key person to report to
  • In addition, there is a comprehensive CPD programme which apprentices can participate in: they can tailor this to their needs. Trainees will also take part in any whole school training offered on INSET days

What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship

  • Although we cannot guarantee employment with us after qualifying, some previous apprentices have successfully gained employment with us
  • We will offer support with your next steps, for example, previous apprentices have successfully gained TA posts in other schools, have gone on to university and have trained as teachers
