What you will do in your working day

Under the guidance of senior staff, you will provide the highest level of care and education for all children attending the setting. Whilst gaining hands on experience in a high quality childcare setting you will be working towards a recognised childcare qualification.

  • Shares the nurseries ethos of excellence and aspiration
  • Can envision an outstanding environment and takes necessary steps to put this in practice
  • Ensures the provision of a high quality environment, to meet the needs of individual children having an awareness of any special needs, family cultures and medical histories
  • Ensures the nursery provides an exciting, safe, caring and stimulating learning environment, both indoors and outdoors, at every session
  • Creates displays that reflect the children's individual work and statements.  The relevant early learning goals, characteristics of effective learning and statements to describe 'A Unique Child' must also be included next to their work to evidence children's learning 
  • Activities and equipment are presented at the children's level with the support of a wide range of books, where necessary, to provide opportunities to extend children's literacy, reading and letter recognition skills 
  • Ensures equipment and materials are easily accessible to children, both indoors and outdoors, and children are encouraged to tidy away at the end of every session and the room left clean for the next session 
  • Provides an exciting and appropriate play environment which reflects the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum 
  • Provides an environment where play opportunities are based on children’s current interests and encourages staff to present the environment in a way that excites and stimulates or 'lights up' children's minds and allows for them to become deeply involved through play 
  • Ensures resources are appropriate and safe for children aged between 2-5 years 
  • Ensures that the nursery provides an appropriate play based Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum that enables children to rapidly make individual progress 
  • Ensures all health, hygiene and safety issues are addressed and dealt with immediately with appropriate risk assessments and safety measures in place 
  • Liaise with and support parents/carers and other family members
  • To attend all out of working hours activities, e.g. training, monthly staff meetings, parents/carers evenings summer fayre, Christmas party, etc
  • To be flexible within working practices of setting. Be prepared to help where needed, including to undertake certain domestic jobs within the setting, e.g. preparation of snack meals, cleansing of equipment, cleaning the setting etc.

This job description is not an exhaustive list of duties and the post holder will be required to undertake any other reasonable duties discussed and directed by the Directors.

The training you will be getting

  • Training will be provided on an ongoing daily basis and when required. Course is delivered in the workplace only. An assessor will be allocated to you to progress you through you course. Continual assessments, coupled with assignments/or exams depending on course of study. Time spent training will be part of the agreed contracted hours of the working week
  • At the end of your training, you will sit an exam and submit course work as part of your assessment, and you will receive a Level 3 Early Years Educator qualification, alongside a Paediatric First aid qualification
  • Functional Skills English and maths qualifications form a mandatory part of all apprenticeships and must be completed before an apprentice can pass through gateway. The requirements are detailed in the current version of the apprenticeship funding rules
