You’ll be joining a team committed to ensuring the upkeep and maintenance of street lighting assets, whilst also studying towards your qualifications.     Our pay rate starts at £9 per hour, rising to £10 in the second year and is subject to annual salary reviews. The salary quoted is based on a 45 hour week. If you are under 18 and can only work 40 hours, then the starting salary is £18,720 per year

  • Working week

    Monday - Friday, 7am - 5pm. This is a 45 hour week unless you are under 18 in which case we will work within the requirements of the working time directive.

What you will do in your working day

Your duties may include:

·        Operation of mechanical tools

·        New Electrical installations

·        Electrical Maintenance

·        Electrical Testing

·        Electrical fault finding

·        Working as part of a team

·        Emergency Call-out work

·        Meeting Health & Safety standards

·        Outside working, throughout the year

The training you will be getting

Alongside your day-to-day role, you’ll also be studying towards your highways electrical maintenance and installation operative apprenticeship, plus Functional Skills in English and maths if required.

Supported by your local team and your Learning & Development team, you’ll be given the tools needed to complete your apprenticeship to the highest standard, whilst also contributing positively to the team throughout your studies. This course lasts between 18-24 months, and you will be given time during your working week to complete any studies.

This is a Level 2 Apprenticeship and achieving the standard will result in achieving the following:

  • A mandatory knowledge Level 2 Certificate in Highway Electrical Work
  • A Level 2 NVQ Certificate or Diploma - in Highway Electrical Systems 
  • Electrotechnical Certification Scheme (ECS) Highway Electrical  version   H&S   test   and   requirements   of   the   Highway  Electrical   Registration   Scheme   (HERS) which results in the issuing of an ECS HERS Card being a licence to practice and work in the industry.


You will study on a day release basis.
