What you will do in your working day

Guided by an experienced engineer, you will:

1. Electrical/electronic 

  • Create hardware specifications
  • Create theory of operation documents 
  • Create wiring diagrams 
  • Create bills of materials

2. Software

  • Create PLC based firmware
  • Create PCB based firmware

3. Build/Test

  • Assemble prototypes (wiring/soldering)
  • Test components and products 

4. Become competent in the use of appropriate engineering tools. 

The training you will be getting

Within the Level 3 Engineering Technician Standard you will be working towards the product design and development pathway.

After a period of foundation skills and technical knowledge development all apprentices will be required to achieve the following qualifications:

  • Level 2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Foundation Competence)

After a further period of skills and technical knowledge development all apprentices will be required to achieve the following qualifications:

  • Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Competence) – Product  Design and Development
  • Level 3 Diploma or Extended Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge)
