What you will do in your working day

Fitting replacement parts to customers vehicles that are booked in for repair work. Working along side our 2 full time mechanics helping the remove old units and replacing them. We specialise in 4x4 pickups so all our work will be carried out on those types of vehicles. Work will be to help remove the faulty / non working part and replacing it with a replacement part from our stores and fitting it in to customers vehicles. Work carried out is for engine, gearbox, axle and chassis.

The training you will be getting

The sucessful candidate will work towards a Light Vehicle Technician level 3 qualificaction. Delivery method and location of training to be confirmed.

Apprentices without level 2 English and maths will need to achieve this level prior to taking the End-Point Assessment. For those with an education, health and care plan or a legacy statement, the apprenticeship’s English and maths minimum requirement is Entry Level 3. A British Sign Language (BSL) qualification is an alternative to the English qualification for those whose primary language is BSL.

Full time job can be offered once apprenticeship has been completed.

About the employer

Thornton Breakers is a family run business that started trading in 1987 by the owner Peter Jones. He opened the yard originally based in Thornton where he broke cars, vans and 4x4s for parts and had complete vehicles for sale. Due to the demand for 4x4s parts in 1998 he began to specialise in this market
