What you will do in your working day

To work under the direction of the teacher to provide high level support to teachers in removing barriers to learning for students with additional needs.  You will work closely with student to enable them to access a full and rich curriculum within which they can make progress. 

Your work will include:

  • Attend to students’ personal needs, including social, health and welfare matters
  • Provide administrative support, e.g. writing student profiles, preparing resources and record keeping
  • Assist with the planning and delivery of learning activities, this will involve:
  • clarifying and explaining instructions
  • ensuring students are able to use equipment and materials provided
  • motivating and encouraging students as required and assisting in weaker areas
  • Accompany teachers and students on out-of-school activities and take responsibility for a group, under the direction of a teacher
  • Keep learning journals and provide next steps
  • Take responsibility of a key area of focus such as Dyslexia, ASD amongst others as requested by the SENCO
  • Within the role of key worker to liaise regularly with parents/carers and external professionals as required. Keeping accurate records of all points of contact
  • Use specialist curricular knowledge or experience to support students’ learning
  • Use ICT for learning activities and support students to develop competence and independence in the use of ICT
  • Assist with the development and implementation of Student Profiles, Education, Health and Care Plans and personal care programmes
  • To attend tutor review meetings and parents meetings of the students they are supporting
  • From time-to-time, supervise whole classes during the short-term absence of a teacher as required or requested by SLT
  • Demonstrate initiative to develop the EAL Teaching Assistant role at this higher level
  • Within an agreed system of supervision, plan, deliver and evaluate programmes of work that meet teaching and learning objectives
  • Maintain an accurate EAL register that all staff can access

The successful candidate will be patient, reliable and sensitive to the needs of our students. They will show an enthusiasm and commitment to supporting learning across the curriculum. A good sense of humour and an ability to work as part of a close-knit team is essential. The role will involve supporting students both in class and through interventions, individually and in small groups. They will be required and supported to successfully complete the fully funded Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship Qualification.

The training you will be getting

  • You will be working towards the Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification. 
  • You may need to work towards Level 2 functional skills in maths and English if not achived at GCSE level 4/C or above.
  • All training will be provided during paid working hours. Training is delivered remotely through teams. No travel to training academies necessary.
