What you will do in your working day

Early Years Apprentice will work with and care for children from birth to 5 years.

  • To provide a safe, caring, stimulating educational environment, both indoors and outdoors, at all times.
  • To deliver an appropriate play based Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum that enables children to make individual progress.
  • To help ensure the preschool nursery meets Ofsted requirements at all times.
  • To understand and work to preschool nursery policies and procedures, including how to deal with child protection issues appropriately and how to respond to incidents, accidents,
    complaints and emergencies.
  • To plan activities which ensure each child is working towards the early learning outcomes.
  • To be a key person.
    To ensure records are properly maintained, e.g. daily attendance register, accident and incident book, risk assessments.
  • To liaise closely with parents/carers, informing them about the nursery and its curriculum, exchanging information about children’s progress and encouraging parents’ involvement.
  • To work in partnership with senior management to update and review the self-evaluation and improvement plan.
  • To undertake any other reasonable duties as directed, in accordance with the preschool aims and objectives.

About the employer

At Moon Light Day Nursery in Handsworth, we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) learning approach. We care for children from birth to age 5, and provide a range of age appropriate resources and activities to encourage their development right up until they are ready to transition to school! We have been catering for children 0-5 years old and are always keen to help all families of different backgrounds. Fully qualified staff are on duty at all times. The Early Years curriculum goals are followed, including many multi-cultural activities. Moon Light Day we pride ourselves with dedicated, caring staff. Our staff will be qualified; being NVQ Level 2, 3 to 6, other staff members are working towards their childcare qualification, with the more senior staff members having many years’ experience in the childcare. Staff also will be receiving training in areas such like: First Aid, Level 2 in Food and hygiene, trained in Asthma and Allergy, Safeguarding, Child protection, Epilepsy, 2 years progress check, healthy eating, behavior management and also many other training courses that will help us in our day to day running of our nursery. We will try our best to educate of staff and management to care for our wonderful children and have save working environment that everyone will enjoy working in day to day. We will hold regular staff meetings to ensure that our high standards are maintained. Issues relating to all aspects of the Nursery are fully discussed with the staff. Management meetings will be held regularly to ensure that our service is meeting the needs of our children, parents and staff.
