What you will do in your working day

Duties Include:

  • Work with individuals or small groups of children under the direction of teaching staff
  • Establish positive relationships with pupils being supported
  • Implement planned learning activities/teaching programmes as agreed with the teacher
  • Support pupils with activities which support literacy and numeracy skills
  • Support the use of ICT in the classroom and develop pupils’ competence and independence in its use
  • Promote positive pupil behaviour in line with school policies and help keep pupils on task
  • To always respect confidentiality
  • Participate in evaluation of learning activities with the teacher, providing feedback to the teacher on pupil progress and behaviour
  • Where necessary supporting the student(s) with personal needs as required by the individual child/young person. This may include help with social welfare, care and health matters, including toileting, dressing, feeding, mobility etc
  • Help the student learn effectively on their own and in a group and develop the students’ self-esteem, encourage independence and self-reliance

The training you will be getting

Teaching Assistant Level 3 Apprrenticeship Standard:

  • Level 3 Diploma for the Supporting Teaching and Learning
  • Functional Skills (as required)
  • Employment Rights and Responsibilities
  • Personal Learning and Thinking qualification

The Level 3 TA apprentice will attend a monthly class (full day) at ACL Essex’s centre in Witham or, in exceptional circumstances we might be able to offer an online option (after school hrs).

What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship

  • May lead to permanent position once the apprenticeship has successfully been completed
