Do you want a dynamic and exciting career in the automotive industry? Offering a fantastic opportunity for an Apprentice Vehicle Damage Assessor to join their busy bodyshop. You will gain the skills to accurately inspect and assess all elements of a motor vehicle that has sustained damage and requires repair.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

The programme for the Vehicle Damage Assessor Apprenticeship incorporates the following;

  • https://www.instituteforapprenticeships.org/apprenticeship-standards/vehicle-damage-assessor-v1-0
  • knowledge delivered in partnership and managed by EMTEC College
  • Vehicle Damage Assessor Level 4
  • Apprentices without level 2 English and maths will need to achieve this level prior to taking the End-Point Assessment
  • For those with an education, health and care plan or a legacy statement, the apprenticeship’s English and maths minimum requirement is Entry Level 3. A British Sign Language (BSL) qualification is an alternative to the English qualification for those whose primary language is BSL

Regular review and welfare visits from appointed assessors who will observe all evidence opportunities that occur naturally in the workplace

  • Recognise properties of different types of vehicle damage
  • Maintain records
  • Use manual and digital image technology
  • Locate vehicle unique identification details
  • Diagnose safety faults on vehicles
  • Read, adhere to and apply relevant legislation
  • Use repair methods
  • Make judgements on vehicle damage, taking into account safety and cost
  • Commercial decision making
  • Prepare costings based on parts and labour ratios
  • Oral communication, listening and negotiation skills
  • Use industry guidelines appropriately
  • Recognises importance of gaining approval before work commences
  • Use of estimating software, spreadsheets, on-line databases
  • Recognise properties of different types of vehicle damage
  • Maintain records

    Skills required: A VDA will have excellent communication skills, be able to negotiate and have a methodical approach to work. Being able to carry out work accurately is essential. Excellent communication skills; passionate about the automotive industry; forward thinking and keen to learn with an interest in development and progression; hardworking; punctual; reliable; ability to use own initiative; must have a ‘can do’ attitude.
