About the employer

First Steps was established and is still owned by a Mother (Jean Martin) and Daughter (Sonia Anderson) team since 1997. It is operated by Sonia and both Nurseries are managed by a highly respected Manager, Sally. The initial Nursery at Newmarket Street has been caring for children since 1997. Due to the high demand for places at Newmarket Street we decided in 2008 to open another Nursery in Skipton at Broughton Road. We transferred some existing staff to Broughton Road to ensure the high standards were maintained at both Nurseries. We always strive to bring something new and exciting to the Nurseries. 2011 saw a lot of new ideas such as the stay and play sessions, where you can leave your baby with us for a couple of hours to enable you to have some time to get those little jobs done. We also introduced monthly event days which have been a huge success with the children. These have given the children opportunities to dress up and get involved with different activities around a theme such as Road Safety, French Day and Environment Day. We have also introduced monthly visits from external professionals such as, French lessons and Rhythm Time Being a family run business has the advantage of understanding what parents really need from the Nursery and we always try to be as flexible as possible. If you need an extra day or would like to swap a day we will always try to accommodate you. Some Parents require child care around shifts which we also understand can be demanding. We have now introduced the “Pay for what you use” service. You are charged for the days your child is with us in nursery. You are not charged for days when your child is off sick or you are on holiday. This is a cost saving of hundreds of pounds per year which is very beneficial to parents.
