What you will do in your working day

Job Objective:

To develop a strong foundational understanding of engineering and manufacturing processes


  • This role will be based in the Mechanical Assembly team:
  • Assembling and testing our products in accordance with drawings, procedures and work instructions.
  • Get involved in continuous improvement activities such as 5S and Kaizen events
  • Develop knowledge of our products through internal training.
  • Develop fault-finding and testing skills to identify and repair faults.

After the first year there will be 3 month rotations of other areas of the business such as:

  • Metalshop (sheet fabrication and machining processes such as punching, braking, welding, machining, milling, etc)
  • Electrical Assembly (Assemble and test electronic products using processes such as soldering)
  • Engineering (CAD design and Production Engineering – process layouts, continuous improvement, jigs, fixtures, document control)
  • Assembly and testing of our products involves a mix of learning new processes and products, as well as consolidating and embedding those skills by repeat work.

The training you will be getting

  • Detailed training plans updated for each rotation with training provided on the job through shadowing and training.
  • Internal training on products supported by technical training videos.
  • There will be a buddy scheme for apprentices.

What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship

  • You will achieve a qualification at the end of this Apprenticeship which will allow a guaranteed role as a Fitter (Mechanical or Electrical depending on experience gained during apprenticeship).
  • Other potential roles at Expo include junior engineering vacancies, or other entry levels that require a technical foundation such Quality or Sales (subject to such roles being available at the time).
