What you will do in your working day

The expected duties and responsibilities of the successful applicant will be:

  • Undertake allocated coaching/teaching duties.
  • To support and where appropriate lead teams in the ‘major sports’, accompanying them on school fixtures and refereeing as necessary.
  • To support with the administration of the Sports Department and other areas of the School as directed by the Head of Sport.
  • To cover lessons or other activities as required when not engaged with the School’s sports or co-curricular programme.
  • Teach at holiday sport camps.
  • Any other duties as may be required and as directed by line manager/Head.
  • Attend staff meetings, whole school staff training.
  • Fulfil personal requirements where appropriate with regard to school policies and procedures, particularly safeguarding, health and safety, equal opportunities and promotion of the School’s core values.

Sports Coach Level 4 Apprenticeship Standard qualification:

  • Training is provided through virtual learning
  • The programme provides opportunities to share experiences with other apprentices and learn from experienced professionals

  • Learning Resources - Examples and how they can be used in lessons

  • CPD development and self - awareness  

They will also complete training to deliver: 

  • Gymnastics (Once completed learners will have the knowledge and skills to deliver high quality and safe gymnastics lessons)

About the employer

For September 2024 Broomwood Prep Boys School (part of Dukes Education) are looking to appoint two apprentices who can contribute to the school’s sport and co-curricular programmes. We are looking for team players with a love of sport who are able to engage and motivate the pupils and are committed to developing a love of sport and an understanding of the importance of physical fitness in all boys at the school. Our major sports are football, rugby and cricket and our minor sports include tennis, hockey and athletics. In PE we cover an array of sports including, handball, basketball, swimming, volleyball and functional fitness. We run a busy and significant programme of competitive fixtures which take place during the afternoons sport sessions and occasional Saturdays. We regularly compete in national and local tournaments such as the IAPS and ISFA cup in football, swimming and rugby.
