    Competitive wage package commensurate with performance. Paid holidays. Pension scheme for employees aged 21 and over. Scope for training and progression within the business.

What you will do in your working day

Under the instruction of experienced stonemasons, you will become proficient in relevant skills, including: 

  • Construction and repair of stone structures e.g. walls, floors, monuments
  • Setting out using measuring and marking tools
  • Dressing stones using hand tools and power tools
  • The mixing and use of appropriate mortars
  • Stone fixing
  • Repairing and replacing damaged stones in existing structures.
  • Reading drawings
  • Working in compliance with health and safety requirements

You will attend York College on a block placement basis and achieve your Level 2 Stonemasonry qualification by the end of a 2-year apprenticeship.

The training you will be getting

  • You will work towards the Level 2 Stonemason Apprenticeship Standard qualification with on the job training within the business and block release to York College
  • If you do not have GCSE (or equivalent) English and maths at Grade 3/D or above you will be required to work towards Functional Skills in these subjects

Our business is based near Penrith in Cumbria. We offer a comprehensive service covering stonemasonry, general building, landscaping and groundworks. Activities include design and build, rebuild, repairs and restoration. We work on small to large projects for commercial and domestic customers. We have a small but growing team of experienced and trainee workers and believe in developing our own people.
