What you will do in your working day

Working as part of the purchase ledger function in the finance department support through:

  • Processing purchase invoices
  • Reconciliation of supplier statements
  • Processing incoming post
  • Managing supplier queries
  • Provide support and analysis as required
  • Assisting with sales ledger, including processing transactions at the cash desk and over the phone
  • Supporting the College Accountant and Head of Finance with queries and ad-hoc work
  • On a daily basis, review and post all till sessions ensuring all income has been correctly input to Cash Office and correcting where necessary
  • Prepare income received at the college for banking on a regular basis in accordance with the cash collection schedule
  • Liaise with the bank and security services
  • Create paying-in slips on BluQube for BACS remittances to aid automatic bank reconciliations
  • Supporting with the management of the Wisepay system, including provide support to learners system
  • Run reports and process Wisepay daily transactions
  • Run reports within the finance system and review the output to ensure accuracy
  • Support the month end process through entry of journals into the finance system
  • Daily monitoring and reconciliation of all monies held in the safe, ensuring safe limits are not exceeded
  • Tagging new fixed assets purchased and recording details
  • General administrative support for the Finance Department

The training you will be getting

The apprenticeship training is delivered through a combination of workplace learning and regular college attendance. This training will teach you the knowledge, skills and behaviours set out in the Assistant Accountant Apprenticeship standard. On completion the apprentice will receive the Assistant Accountant Level 3 standard which includes a AAT Advanced Diploma in Accounting qualification.
