What you will do in your working day

The apprentice will:

  • to work under the guidance of the foundation stage class teacher on a daily basis.
  • Daily phonics sessions with pupils in small groups and whole class.
  • Provide a safe, secure and welcoming environment for the children and their families.
  • Helping with the day-to-day life of foundation stage pupils.
  • Have a willingness to be involved.
  • Implement and deliver the curriculum.
  • Contribute to planning.
  • Ensure that the children’s needs are met by offering structure, care and stability.
  • Work in partnership with other team members.
  • Respect the confidentiality and privacy of information.

The training you will be getting

Apprenticeship Standard: Level 3 Teaching Assistant.

Functional Skills in Maths and English if required.

The programme will consist of face to face tutor led knowledge sessions, at Broughton House in Taunton once per fortnight. A minimum of six hours independent study needs to take place at a venue to be agreed with the employer on the alternate week.

What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship

Successful completion of the apprenticeship can lead to progression onto the Teaching Foundation Degree.

Things to consider

Job offers are subject to two references. Transport to and from Employer and Training venues need to be considered. You will also be required to undertake an enhanced DBS check performed by the employer.
