What you will do in your working day

Typical duties:

  • Grass cutting
  • Strimming
  • Hedge trimming
  • Digging over
  • Weeding
  • Planting
  • Turfing
  • Clearing up
  • Leaf clearance
  • Using tools and machinery, e.g. mowers.
  • You will be required to work and act in a safe and sensible manner always taking responsibility for your own safety and of those around you.
  • You should be prepared to undertake manual work every day in all weather conditions.
  • Must be able to get to either Otley or could be picked up from Kirkstall or Elland road area.

The training you will be getting

  • Level 2 Horticulture or Landscape Operative qualification
  • Maths and English Functional skills if required
  • Pesticides: Level 2 Principles of Safe Handling and Application of Pesticides Guidance OR Level 2 Award in the Safe Use of Pesticides
  • First Aid at Work qualification
  • Training by day release at Shipley College

What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship

  • The employer is looking to offer the apprentice a full time position on a successful completion of the apprenticeship with opportunities to continue developing their horticulture skills.

Applicants may be asked to sit a skills assessment to support their application.
