What you will do in your working day

• Provide clerical support to the Veterinary Postgraduate Unit, including using the MS Office suite, Outlook calendar and other University systems and software for data input, as required.
• Ensures that background activities such as filing and record updating take place on a regular basis, as required.
• Ensure records are kept up-to-date and stored in accordance with Data Protection Legislation.
• Marketing support including assembly and distribution of marketing materials as instructed by the administration team.
• Maintain stock control systems, checking stationery supplies and ordering items as required.
• Other unspecified clerical duties within the unit as required (e.g. assisting VPU Office Administrators).
• Plans and organises own workload, with reference to supervisor/senior colleagues.
• Registration and general reception duties.
• Produce documentation for events such as badges, delegate lists and signage.
• Assemble delegate packs for events including course notes and feedback forms.
• Maintain refreshments on workshop days, book catering and maintain stock on an ongoing basis  
• Preparation of rooms for workshops and examinations, responsibility for the setting up of equipment for workshops and examinations.
• Working early, late evenings and occasional weekends when required.

What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship

After qualifying as a Business Administration Assistant, there are many avenues that could be taken such as specialising in a particular field for example, legal, medical, financial or a personal assistant role. With further training and experience more senior roles could be taken on such as office manager or executive assistant positions.

Exposure to animals (e,g cats, dogs, horses). Ability for light lifting duties, for example - arranging chairs and tables for conferencing .

About the employer

The Veterinary Postgraduate Unit is the largest CPD provider within the University with a mandate to meet the University’s strategic plan of increasing KE within the profession, promoting referrals to the Veterinary Hospitals, and to do so whilst covering all costs from income generated. The VPU also runs a large postgraduate taught programme in the form of online modules within four programmes. The unit also has responsibility for delivering positive PR for the School and the University as a whole.
