    The yearly salary will increase as follows: • Year 1: £16,000 • Year 2: £18,000 • Year 3: £20,000 • Year 4: £25,000 Additional benefits include, Company Pension, Private Health Care and additional benefits through personal contribution.

    Year 1: Full Time College, 09:00-17:00. Years 2 - 4: 1 day at College, 4 days working on-site 08:00 - 15:30.

What you will do in your working day

You will be involved in the following:

Scheduled maintenance tasks across all areas of the site including:

  • Steam generation
  • Water treatment systems
  • Paper manufacturing equipment
  • Converting equipment
  • Packaging
  • Robot palletising
  • Product distribution

Manufacturing components and parts, using workshop equipment to include:

  • Lathes
  • Milling machines
  • Pillar drills
  • Grinders
  • Fabrication and welding

Electrical and Instrumentation, work to include:

  • Installation
  • Fault finding, diagnosis and repair
  • Preventative maintenance
  • Calibration
  • Improvement project work, from design to delivery
  • Thermographic surveys

Mechanical work to include:

  • Bench fitting
  • Pump, gearbox, valve repairs
  • Fault Finding, Diagnosis and repair
  • Preventative Maintenance

Improvement Project Work, from design to delivery.

The training you will be getting

Year 1 of the Level 3 Maintenance and Operations Engineering Technician Apprenticeship Standard, the learner will attend four days a week within IPS Rochester workshop completing practical skills (Performing Engineering Operations) and one day a week studying the Technical Certificate.

In Year 2, the Apprentice moves to day-release and will attend IPS one day a week to continue the Technical Certificate. Starting in Year 2 and continuing until completion in Year 4. The Apprentice will continue to receive regular training contact with IPS all throughout the programme.

  • Level 3 Maintenance and Operations Engineering Technician qualification upon successful completion of the apprenticeship.

What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship

  • Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, there is the possibility of a career as a qualified Engineering Technician (Mechanical or Electrical).
  • Also the possibility to undertake further education or work as a qualified Engineering Technician.
