As an apprentice Formworker, you'll be helping to create, install & maintain permanent and temporary timber structures that create moulds to support the creation & stability of concrete structures in construction. This includes fabricating panels & fittings that utilise concrete to form desired shapes, such as slabs, support beams, columns & walls.

What you will do in your working day

  • Communicate clearly and appropriately (verbal, written, body language). Adjusts communication to suit different situations, individuals or teams.
  • Apply general workplace health, safety and welfare requirements when undertaking construction formworking/falseworking activities.
  • Practice safe working techniques for moving, lifting and handling traditional and proprietary formwork system; which will include working at heights and using access equipment.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of planning and able to undertake different methods of construction used to build structures productively. Competent in reading, interpreting and apply information from drawings, specifications and construction information.
  • Takes ownership of allocated projects and effectively manages own time.
  • Use a range of methods to communicate workplace requirements effectively and demonstrate how key personnel should communicate effectively within a team.
  • Form and assemble horizontal and vertical formwork as per design drawings and repair, erect and strike formworking.
  • Erect, Strike formwork/ falsework and its components for a range of applications including walls, slabs/bases, columns, beams and precast units to support concrete.
  • Competent in safely using, storing and maintaining hand tools, power tools and ancillary equipment.

The training you will be getting

  • Formal training will be employing regular block release sessions throughout the apprenticeship
  • The apprentice will work towards a Level 2 Formworker qualification
  • Functional Skills English and Maths if required

  • On successful completion of the apprenticeship there will be the opportunity to move into full-time employment

Things to consider

The successful candidate will be required to pass a drug and alcohol test. The apprentice will need a CSCS Card - support will be given in how to achieve this. Due to local planning requirements, applications can only be considered from residents who live locally within the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea
