What you will do in your working day

PK Stud are successful show jumpers and have a small breeding programme with top-quality mares and stallions who have some of the best bloodlines in Europe. As well as having an excellent choice of young show jumpers for sale, they also take horses to produce for owners at any stage of their career, including breaking in, training, competing, or on sales livery.

They have a UKCC Level 3 qualified coach on-site and can offer training for every level horse and rider.

The successful candidate must be confident in handling youngsters.

General yard duties will include;

  • Mucking out
  • Tacking up and tack cleaning
  • Bringing in and turning out
  • Clipping/pulling/trimming/plaiting
  • Bathing
  • Schooling
  • Exercising horses (including lunging, horse walker, long reining)
  • Bandaging
  • Rug changing
  • Holding for vet/farrier/dentist
  • Paddock maintenance

The training you will be getting

You wil be working towards the Level 2 Equine Groom apprenticeship with your employer and the support of Haddon Training.

All training will be completed at the employers premises so you will not need to attend anywhere else.

If you do not have maths and English at Grade 4 or above, Haddon Training will support you in gaining Functional Skills qualifications in these subjects.

What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship

For the right candidate, there is the possibility to progress on to a Level 3 Senior Equine Groom Apprenticeship upon successful completion of the Level 2.

Things to consider

This role will require working in all weather conditions so any applicant must be willing and able to do this. There is no accommodation available on site, so any applicant must be able to reliably make their way to and from the yard each day.
