What you will do in your working day

As well as your studies which will be a variety of in-person and virtual learning at UWE, you’ll undertake practical training whilst working with a team of senior practitioners and clinical scientists providing the scientific and technical support to the ionising radiation physics department at UHD.

Gaining skills and experience of medical physics, you’ll be observing, assisting and performing procedures under direct supervision while working in accordance with radiation and safety regulations.

You’ll communicate effectively within the healthcare environment and clinical team, adapting communication to meet varying needs and overcoming barriers to understanding, applying academic learning and developing patient-centred skills.

You’ll work in accordance with Trust and NHS standards, the Practitioner Standards of Proficiency (AHCS) and the HCPC standards.

The training you will be getting

Upon the successful completion of the apprenticeship you will awarded with a BSc (Hons) Healthcare Science Practitioner (diagnostic radiology).

Location: Primarily based at Poole Hospital with frequent cross site working at Royal Bournemouth Hospital and occasional visits to other SLA sites across Dorset, with three five-day blocks at UWE Bristol each year.

What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship

To be in a position to be offered a full-time substantive position the successful applicant will need to have completed their qualification in full. Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship the applicant will be elligable to join the HCPC register.
