What you will do in your working day

As an apprentice Mechanic you will join a busy, experienced team, in the repair, maintenance and diagnostics of a range of vehicles and marques at an established local firm. You will have the support of level 3 qualified and master technicians, as well as the responsibility to carry out your own work and develop your skills in a practical manner, at a pace that is appropriate to you.

By joining an independent dealer you will have the opportunity to have the broadest based training possible and the ability to take on more responsibility much earlier in your training process should you wish.

The responsibilities of the role will be led by your skills and willingness to develop. Initially this will revolve around learning the workings of a busy workshop, tool and space management as well as observations and practical tasks where you are asked to test what you have learned.

The training you will be getting

Apprentices will work towards the Autocare technician apprenticeship standard, including Functional Skills in English and maths if required. Delivery method and location to be confirmed.

• Tyre legislation and technical information including EU Tyre labelling, Tyre Pressure Monitoring systems, sidewall markings, homologated fitments relating to cars, car derived vans and light goods vehicles.

• Fundamentals of specific vehicle systems including steering & suspension, braking systems, battery & charging systems, exhaust systems and Air-Conditioning systems.

• Vehicle 4-wheel geometry principles.

• Basic consumer legislation relevant to the occupation.

• Appropriate Health & Safety legislation and requirements for the workplace.

• Hybrid/Electric Vehicle system and safe working procedures.

• Data protection requirements to protect customer and payment information.

• General sales principles including, identifying customer & vehicle needs, presenting solutions, closing the sale, and dealing with buying resistance.

• How the business works and how you contribute to the overall results, demonstrating commercial awareness.
