What you will do in your working day

Day to day role responsibilities include:

  • Prepare all food items as directed in a sanitary and timely manner
  • Follow recipes and presentation specifications
  • Operate standard kitchen equipment safely and efficiently
  • Maintain a clean working station whilst adhering to health & safety standards
  • Assist with the cleaning and organisation of kitchen and equipment
  • Restock items as needed throughout the shift 
  • Adhere to all food hygiene & safety standards

The training you will be getting

  • The apprentice will be working towards the Level 2 Commis Chef Apprenticeship Standard
  • College attendance will be at the Colchester Institute - Colchester Campus one day per week during term time
  • English and maths qualifications form a mandatory part of all apprenticeships and must be completed before an apprentice can pass through gateway.

There is real opportunity to grow and develop at The Flag, becoming an integral part of the restaurant’s future with scope for the candidate to make a real mark on the food offering. Our group (Black Jacket Group) also caters for hundreds of events throughout the year, alongside operating our own wedding venue in St Osyth where the successful candidate has the potential to work with incredibly experienced and dedicated chefs to deliver the widest possible variety of food service.

Things to consider

The successful candidate must be able to travel from home/college to The Flag – including later night departures from site. There is also free on-shift staff food & discounted food and drink.

About the employer

The Flag, Wivenhoe is an 85 cover restaurant and hotel (with 10 rooms). We are part of Black Jacket Group - a full service catering, events and venue management business. Since opening in November 2022, The Flag has gained an excellent reputation for great food and service, which has been fundamental to our success over the 16 months or so.
