What you will do in your working day

  • Be customer care focused whilst being an ambassador for the organisation
  • Welcoming guests and others attending the Café
  • Setting up and preparing food and displays prior to public opening hours. Likewise, appropriately clearing down and cleaning after open hours
  • Learning and operating various elements of a professional coffee machine and other barista equipment and other catering equipment
  • Be part of ongoing customer canvassing to ensure that menus and food on offer to meet demand and interest. Also is able to show initiative to come up with new ideas and products
  • Day to day stock taking, maintaining adequate levels of snacks, food items, drinks, crockery and disposables etc.
  • Maintains a clean and tidy café area both in the preparation and selling areas, Also helps to maintain a clean and tidy public seating and dining area
  • Assist manager in promotion and communication with regards to all aspects of the Café
  • Assist with maintaining necessary records ensuring that they are up to date and accurate
  • Ensure compliance of all health and safety and safeguarding aspects in and around the Café
  • To be professional, polite, welcoming and well-presented aiming always to provide excellent customer service

The training you will be getting

This apprenticeship includes:

  • Level 2 Hospitality Team Member (Barista Pathway)
  • Functional Skills in maths & English (unless exemptions can be evidenced)

Training is provided through a blended delivery approach:

  • Monthly Online Tutorials
  • 1:1 support with your tutor as often as you need
  • Face-to-face visits in your workplace by your tutor to complete observations and progress reviews
  • Self-learning through courses within our platforms

What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship

  • Upon completion, the apprentice will have a high potential of permanent employment and possible progression to L3 Hospitality Supervision apprenticeship

About the employer

The Spacious Place Cafe is a culmination of the heart and vision of Thurrock Christian Fellowship over the last two years. Alongside our Thurrock Foodbank and our Treasure Children Forever Preschool, the Cafe is one of three main arms of community outreach.
