What you will do in your working day

  • To set and operate CNC machines to manufacture precision parts according to engineered drawings and specifications
  • Examine parts for quality compliance using high-level precision measurements
  • Perform preventative maintenance on machines
  • Responsible for working alongside other CNC Operators, assisting them and developing where necessary
  • To work according to tight schedules and follow strict quality control and precise guidelines as outlined in ISO 9001/2015
  • Adhere to Company health and safety and housekeeping requirements and follow company rules and acceptable codes of conduct
  • Performs any other duties that may be assigned by the supervisor

The training you will be getting

Formal training is delivered at HWGTA, located in Hereford (HR4 9SX):

Level 3 comprises of:

  • Duration approximately 40-45 months
  • Year 1 includes 26-42 weeks off the job training to cover practical and theory aspects
  • Year 2 would include 1 day per week to complete EAL Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering - Development Knowledge
  • Years 2, 3 and 4 will be based in company developing skills in preparation for the end point assessment to gain your Engineering Machining Technician qualification
  • You will receive monthly visits from your assigned Learning and Development Specialist, who will set you work, monitor your development and wellbeing, and discuss training sessions. They will also prepare you for your End Point Assessment
  • Additional training for functional skills in English and Maths will be undertaken if needed
  • There is also a five-day teambuilding residential trip that is held in the spring of each year offered to all apprentices on programme

What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship

Ful-time position once completed apprenticeship. Lots of different routes for progression i.e. Assembly or CNC operator, development engineer or production engineer.
