What you will do in your working day

Housing Asset Management is an important role within social housing. It involves ensuring that a landlords homes are affordable, safe and attractive to tenants, plus they are financially viable. Managing assets is about investing in, maintaining and upgrading properties. To do this, it's fundamental to understand the needs and aspirations of tenants.

Your role is all about being part of the Investment Team within the Property Department, responsible for the delivery of a range of planned maintenance and improvement projects, including individual properties and large-scale programmes, ensuring high quality services to all customers.

As an apprentice within the workplace, you will learn how to undertake the following day to day tasks:

  • Identify the suitability of health and safety documentation, including risk assessments and method statements, to assist in ensuring sufficient planning has been carried out for tasks to be completed safely.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the requirements of a project are met, ensuring records of the communications are kept in line with company processes
  • Ensure accurate contractual records are kept in relation to the planning of construction projects
  • Support the production of resource lists, based on estimates, using technical drawings to identify the requirements of the project
  • Assist with the development of tenders relevant to the construction project, ensuring records of tenders are kept and processed within the required timescales
  • Support the procurement of project materials, plant and sub-contractors
  • Support the progress of construction projects, recommending and proposing revisions of programmes and assisting with the planning of schedules of work
  • Support the implementation of appropriate contract quantities and cost monitoring systems to provide early warning of problems for all contract phases on-site
  • Use surveying information to contribute to the measurement, evaluation and review of project performance.
  • Assist with insurance and disrepair claim resolution
  • Keep up to date with current legislation and best practice

The training you will be getting

The successful candidate will work towards a Level 3 Construction Support Technician Qualification, which will take 24 months plus End Point Assessment (EPA)

Functional Skills Level 2 English and maths if required.
Delivery method and location of training has yet to be confirmed.

With this qualification, you can pursue a career in multiple disciplines within construction such as Quantity Surveying, Estimating, Buying & Procurement or Planning.
