What you will do in your working day

As an Operational Support Apprentice your every day will be different! One day, you assist with maintaining Worksite Submissions Tracker, another day you will be assisting with maintaining TRU Engineering Trains Master Tracker with new, amended, and cancelled engineering trains and tampers. You will be also involved in creation periodical SCO register with all train and tamper additions and cancellations, and amendments with commercial impact in preparation for meeting with commercial team, as well as creating and submitting LACR / CRF for worksite / possession changes as required. Assist with submissions of any new worksites into the Network Rail access planning system (PPS) that are required post CPPP publication.

You will be responsible for:  

  • Attend Network Rail weekly area planning meetings as cover for senior planner(s) to represent TRU West works
  • Attend Deconfliction meetings to collate any, non-disruptive, worksite amendments that are required ahead of T-7 (NW&C) and T-9 (Eastern) deadlines
  • Action changes in PPS from the above
  • Attend track team development meetings as required to both brief out the orders as currently in NROL and to collate any necessary changes that need making in NROL
  • Liaise with SCO for changes to ensure they can accommodate the project amended requirements
  • Provide NROL reports to the various functions to assist in their development / job reviews
  • Attend / Provide information (PPS and NROL reports) for DWWP and QSRA reviews
  • Participate in regular team and safety meetings with the allocated Project Manager and technical briefings with the appropriate technical head
  • Onward briefing of technical updates and review of project compliance with standards
  • Initiate and pursue appropriate action in response to critical issues identified escalating where the issue strays from the role’s remit or role holder’s personal competence
  • Maintain professional development and awareness of issues within own discipline
  • Compliance with Amey Health, Safety and Environmental policies and procedures
  • Ensure the effective identification and management of all risks associated with role carried out

The training you will be getting

As part of your Apprenticeship, you will be enrolled onto an Associate Project Manager Level 4 qualification. You will be fully supported through a combination of regular online lessons, e-learning materials, and access to their team of experts for 1-2-1 advice and support.
