What you will do in your working day

  • Set-up/prepare surgery for treatment
  • Clean/sterilise/prepare instruments surfaces
  • Ensure safe disposal of sharps/clinical waste
  • Process, dental radiographs & assist in correct procedure for dental radiography
  • Assist arrival of patients % checking details up to date & correct forms signed
  • Monitor & maintain stocks
  •  Report equipment failures/breakages
  • Book appts
  • Assist dentist in completion of patient records
  • Ensure all necessary laboratory work is returned & ready for each session

The training you will be getting

  • Apprentices will be required to attend college at least x1 day per week either at Uxbridge, Harrow or Hayes Campus completing necessary mandatory training and units associated with the apprenticeship

The apprentice will be required to complete:

  • Work towards gaining a full Level 3 Dental Nursing Apprenticeship Qualification
  • Employment Rights and Responsibilities
  • Skills, Knowledge, and Behaviours
  • Standard and End Point Assessment
  • Functional Skills in English, maths, and ICT (if required)
  • Other training will be provided by the employer as required to enable the fulfilment of the job role

What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship

  • Once qualified the individual will be able to register with the General Dental Council and join the Association of British Dental Nurses
  • This allows individuals to work legally in this sector and opens up other pathways for future progression e.g. Senior Dental Nurse, Hygienist, Therapist, Practice Manager
