What you will do in your working day

  • To promote positive behaviour and conduct by all, be a good role model, and ensure that sessions are safe, fun and progressive
  • To deliver the club’s programme to your designated group of gymnasts within the limits of your qualification as part of our Junior Programme (school aged children), with the possibility of some coaching in our Butterflies Programme (preschool aged children)
  • To work with the coaching team in session delivery and enhance club wide expertise by sharing knowledge and assisting team development where possible
  • To be willing to support and assist at inhouse competitions and events, to help with the promotion and development of the Club.
  • To work with higher qualified coaches to gain further knowledge, skill progression ideas and support with coaching qualifications

What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship

The successful Candidate will be fully supported by the Club to progress along the coaching pathway and gain further qualifications (e.g.preschool; judging; higher level coaching qualification), with opportunity to progress onto the Level 4 Sports Coach Apprenticeship.

There may also be opportunity to progress into coaching competitive gymnastics if that was a pathway the candidate was interested in progressing into.    There will also be opportunity to gain judging qualifications should the candidate be interested.

There may be opportunity to develop links with local schools to deliver gymnastics as a breakfast or afterschool club if the partnerships can be established.

Once the candidate has a Level 2 or above coaching qualification they can then also run the childrens birthday parties we hold at weekends, providing further opportunity to earn.

The Club also offers further activities such as weekend skill specific/ apparatus specific workshops; holiday activities; weekend stay and play sessions which are all offered to qualified staff to have the option to work at.

Things to consider

The candidate is required to act in a professional manner and with excellent conduct in line with the Clubs Code of Conduct at all times. The candidate should be able to communicate clearly and effectively to various groups including children and young adults; fellow coaches; volunteers; parents/carers; and support staff. The candidate should be able to support the coaching team with the gym organisation and set up of the facility before and after each session. The candidate will be required to attend all inhouse staff training with the Club Welfare Officer and respective Team Leader(s). The candidate should be able to show understanding of and commitment to the development of every child and the ability to deliver class sessions in a planned and progressive manner

About the employer

Wickers Gymnastics Club, has been providing gymnastics activities in the community for over 30 years, and is based in Lancing, West Sussex. Wickers is a permanent facility based in a converted warehouse on a business park in Lancing. The Club has a membership of over 800 children, young people and adults and a coaching team of 20, along with administration staff and volunteers. The Club offers preschool gymnastics, junior gymnastics, competitive gymnastics, adult classes, teenage session, along with an active Leadership Academy for young people aged 11-16years, who help with the delivery of our gymnastics programme, organise events and help out at birthday parties. Competitive opportunities are offered in General Gymnastics and Womens Artistic Gymnastics. Wickers is open 7 days a week, and the main programme is delivered for 49 weeks of the year with holiday programmes during the closure periods.
