What you will do in your working day

Main duties:

  • General Office duties, assisting with filing etc and producing technical drawings using autocad.
  • Working with two experienced CAD Technicians.
  • Supporting the team of 12 Engineers in various projects of varying natures to support the Engineering Process for the provision of counter terrorism advice, security design, blast and ballistic engineering, weapons effects on structures and hostile vehicle mitigation.

The training you will be getting

  • The learner will be studying the Engineering Technician Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard qualification.
  • Day release to West Suffolk College.
  • Functional skills will be studied if equivalent qualifications are not held.
  • Level 2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Foundation Competence)
  • After a further period of skills and technical knowledge development all apprentices will be required to achieve the following qualifications:
  • Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Competence) – Technical Support.
  • Level 3 Diploma or Extended Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge).

What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship

Long-term role as CAD Technician - support can be provided for further qualifications and study to an Engineer.

Things to consider

Security protocols within building. Based in Alpheton, but may need to visit site or assist with deliveries and collections. Opportunity to assist with ballistic testing. Predominately computer based role.

DGA are the only independent consultancy in the UK capable of providing in-house blast and ballistic testing to current European and International Test Standards. We have a professional but relaxed atmosphere. The team consists of 19 staff and four dogs. We operate from an old Control Tower at Lavenham Airfield, so we have a very remote location.
