What you will do in your working day

  • The four-year programme is designed to enable you to experience different aspects of engineering and production technology including: CNC Machining, Automated Logistics Systems, Robotics, CMM Measurement Systems, Automated Assembly Systems. Training will include the use of engineering drawings, technical specifications, process and quality control documentation. Safe working and environmental awareness are also included in the learning programme
  • Our advisors are always available to provide individual support and guidance, enabling you to customise training to suit your skills
  • Our core first-year engineering training covers electronics, pneumatics, electrical, plc’s, hydraulics, milling, turning, basic hand skills as well as general mechanical and electrical engineering. Further training develops high levels of competence in operating and improving automated manufacturing processes and the skills and techniques required to achieve the challenging manufacturing targets

The training you will be getting

You will start with an NVQ2 in Performing Engineering Operations, progressing to NVQ3 in a Technical Knowledge Qualification. Ultimately, you will achieve a Level 3 BTEC in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering.

Primary activities will include:

  • Monitoring material flow within the syste
  • Changing tools
  • Validating process quality
  • Recovering machine or robot faults
  • Carrying out planned maintenance
  • Analysis of all appropriate data to identify trends and remedial actions
  • Taking care of first level fix (where skill set allows)


What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship

Further potential to move on to an HNC Level 4 in Engineering or Foundation Degree Level 5.

About the employer

BMW Group Plant Hams Hall is a modern, state-of-the-art engine manufacturing facility, located just outside Birmingham, UK. Producing the latest generation of three and four cylinder petrol engines as well as V8 and V12 engines, the plant has recently celebrated 20 years of successful production. Operating seven days a week with more than one engine rolling off the line per minute, the plant plays a key role in BMW Group’s global production network, supplying engines for BMW and MINI, including some of the latest plug-in hybrid vehicles. We are looking for a committed and eager to learn individual to join our Logistics Operations team, responsible for ensuring stock integratory is maintained within the facility from both production and automated warehousing areas whilst also ensuring efficiency and safety are maintained. This involves engaging in tasks such as inventory investigation and reconciliation, ensuring technical availability within our automated warehouses, designing process improvements, creating digitised investigation and improvement topics, and undertaking project roles, tasks that you will be involved in as your apprenticeship progresses. Our Logistics Operations team is keen to teach our apprentices a range of skills needed to be successful, supporting you to ensure your apprenticeship experience is both engaging and valuable to your future.
