    1st Year of the apprenticeship is at Appris in Bradford. You will be there from 8.30am - 4.30pm/5.00pm ,Monday to Friday. From the 2nd year onwards, you will be working from 7.00am to 3.30pm, Monday to Thursday and 7.00am to 12.00pm, Friday.

What you will do in your working day

You will work towards being skilled and be responbsible for:

  • The mechanical set-up of rotating equipment up to 27MW, this will include pumps, motors, gearboxes, gas engines and multiphase pumps across five test beds.
  • Pipe work routing
  • Alignments
  • Working with auxiliary system set-up’s e.g. lube oil, seal systems etc.
  • Assembly of a wide range of pumps within the Sulzer family
  • Dynamic balancing of components and rotors
  • Component detailing to ensure correct hydraulic behaviours on the test bed and in the field 
  • Skid packaging and alignments of pumps, motors and gearboxes
  • Working to high specification engineering drawings

The training you will be getting

  • Level 3 Engineering Fitter Apprenticeship Standard

Year 1- 5 Days a week at Appris Training Centre, Bradford, studying: 

  • BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Foundation Competence - Mechanical)
  • BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge - Mechanical)

Year 2 to Year 4 - Workplace learning: 

  • Internal training, development and mentoring with highly skilled engineers in a variety of project and support based areas and other engineering related duties and requirements. This will meet the Knowledge, Skills and Beahaviours required for the apprenticeship
  • In your 4th Year, you will continue to work towards your occupational competency in engineering and prepare for independent end-point assessments
