What you will do in your working day

Working as a Machining Technician/Toolmaker in the Maintenance team

Duties will include:

  • Making bespoke parts and manufacturing press tools for the maintenance team for all of the machinery on site.
  • Conventional turning, milling, boring mill, slotter, shaper, surface grinding, CNC milling and EDM wire erosion.
  • This is a craft orientated position which would ideally suit a hands-on person with excellent attention to detail wanting to work to tight tolerances in a high precision engineering environment.

The training you will be getting

Formal training is delivered at HWGTA located in Worcester (WR4 9GN):

Duration approximately 40-45 months.

Year 1 includes 26-42 weeks off the job training to cover practical and theory aspects based at our Training Centre.

Year 2 would include 1 day per week to complete EAL Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering - Development Knowledge

Years 2,3&4 will be based in company developing skills in preparation for the end point assessment to gain your Machining Technician Level 3 qualification.

You will receive monthly visits from your assigned Learning and Development Specialist, who will set you work, monitor your development and wellbeing, and discuss training sessions. They will also prepare you for your End Point Assessment.

Additional training for functional skills in English and Maths will be undertaken if needed.

There is also a five-day teambuilding residential trip that is held in the spring of each year offered to all apprentices on programme.
