What you will do in your working day

  • The first year of your apprenticeship will include attending college full time where you will gain an understanding of Engineering principles and workshop safety. 
  • Following this you will work across multiple Engineering departments each on an approximate 6 month rotation.
  • You will work with experienced Engineering Technicians responding to equipment breakdowns, fault finding/problem solving issues and supporting completion of routine maintenance.

Harlow College offers 2 different routes through the Engineering Technician Apprenticeship Standard.

Qualifications achieved:

Level 2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Competence)
Level 2 Diploma in Mechatronics (Knowledge)
You will be required to achieve the following qualifications:

Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Competence) - Mechatronics
Level 3 Diploma or Extended Diploma in Machining/Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Knowledge)

What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship

Full time position offered on completion of the apprenticeship if available.

You will be working at GSK’s Ware manufacturing facility where you’ll be learning how to maintain and improve our pharmaceutical manufacturing equipment and facilities, helping to ensure we can make the medicines and vaccines that we supply to patients.
