What you will do in your working day

Applied Knowledge and Expertise

  • In some schools, with support, acts as the first point of contact for IT issues within specified schools, escalating to IT Senior Technicians and/or the IT Director on an as needed basis
  • Decision making and problem solving
  • Works with support to resolve all level 1 issues, helps with support to fix level 2 issues under guidance from the Senior Technician and escalates all level 3 issues to the Senior Technician
  • With support helps to repair, maintain and monitor the computer facilities throughout the L.E.A.D. Academy Trust and L.E.A.D. IT Services and takes necessary action to resolve standard hardware and software problems that arise
  • With support maintains the integrity and security of the IT systems and performs data restorations when required
  • Assists IT Technicians to support extended IT Services, which cover primary schools, secondary schools, small businesses and charities
  • Assists with installing IT equipment such as data cabling, projectors, whiteboards and other fixed equipment
  • Assists with the setup and monitoring of examinations and related examination equipment
  • Assists with Website and Graphics Design projects with L.E.A.D. Academy Trust and L.E.A.D. IT Services
  • Supports any other reasonable duties within the overall function of the job as may be specified by the IT Management Team
  • Ensures all IT equipment and working practices adhere to Health and Safety requirements
  • Supports adherence to IT policies, including those relating to safeguarding and internet usage and reports any concerns 

Resource Management

  • Assists with the recording of Assets and PAT testing of IT equipment through L.E.A.D. Academy Trust and L.E.A.D. IT Services
  • Assists in maintaining user records, and access control to the Network and Internet, and monitoring user activity and work areas

People Leadership/Development

  • Assists IT Technicians with training staff on software, hardware and other related IT equipment within L.E.A.D. Academy Trust and L.E.A.D. IT Services
  • Completes Apprenticeship Training and exams as required

Influencing and Managing Relationships

  • Establishes effective working relationships with team members and with support establishes effective working relationships with key stakeholders
  • Liaises as appropriate with third party help lines and engineers

The training you will be getting

  • Level 3 Information Communications Technician Apprenticeship Standard
  • Apprenticeship training will be delivered in a classroom environment, from the EMA Derby Hub on Siddals Road, Derby
  • You will have access to modern, high performance machines, in addition to having the opportunity to explore computer hardware with expert tutors and instructors

The qualification has core knowledge elements, before branching out into 3 pathways, which are as follows:

  • IT Support Technician
  • Network Technician
  • Digital Communications Technician

The employer and training provider will agree on which is the most appropriate pathway, and this will influence the project as part of the end-point assessment.

What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship

  • The potential to progress onto an IT level 4 apprenticeship upon completion of level 3
