What you will do in your working day

Here’s what your role as an apprentice will involve: 

  • Developing your skills in a wide range of exciting projects
  • Learning and using relevant design software 
  • Being involved in client meetings and assisting in building key client relationships  
  • You’ll get to understand and learn digital skills, to help us harness technology in new ways
  • Your mentors will support you as you study towards nationally recognised qualifications and accreditation
  • You’ll have dedicated time to spend at college or university to focus on your studies 

The training you will be getting

Nuclear Technicians with the following typical job roles in: Process/Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, Control & Instrumentation, Plant/Design Engineering, Operations, Project Engineering, Scientific, Commissioning / Decommissioning, Environmental, Health, Safety and Quality.

The aim of the programme is to provide work ready technicians and scientists with the relevant skills, knowledge and behaviours to work within a highly technical environment. you can study full time over 2 years, or part time over 3 years.

What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship

The Science Council for Registered Scientist (RSci). Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship and upon receipt of the apprenticeship certificate, individuals are eligible to apply for RSci through a shortened application route.

Individuals also need to be a member of a professional body that is licensed by the Science Council to be awarded this status and provide evidence of a relevant qualification at level 5 or above or demonstrate equivalence. Further information is on the Science Council’s website.

On successful completion of the apprenticeship, a Nuclear Technician will be eligible to apply for professional registration as Engineering Technician (EngTech) through an appropriate Professional Engineering Institution regulated by the Engineering Council.
