What you will do in your working day

  • Support your line manager and colleagues with larger projects during the school holidays
  • Undertake general portage duties including moving furniture and equipment within the school
  • Undertake minor repairs (i.e. not requiring qualified craftsperson) and maintenance of the buildings and site
  • Operate systems such as heating, cooling, lighting and security
  • Receive deliveries to the school site
  • Collect and assemble waste for collection.
  • Occasional weekend work to ensure that lettings are covered (payable at living wage as over time)
  • Regular requirement in terms of manual handling (training will be given) and the requirement to undertake heavy lifting
  • As and when required, ensure that buildings, site and resources are secure, undertaking daily security checks (including locking and unlocking of buildings at pre-determined times)
  • Undertake statutory training and ah-hoc training related to your role
  • Periodic cleaning of designated areas of the school building and grounds according to instructions, including litter picks and emptying of bins as and when required
  • Perform duties in line with health and safety regulations (COSHH) and take action where hazards are identified, report serious hazards to line manager immediately
  • Support your line manager and colleagues with larger projects during the school holidays

The training you will be getting

  • You will be required to attend classes at Kidderminster College one day a week to achieve the level 2 Property Maintenance Operative Apprenticeship Standard qualification.
