What you will do in your working day

As a Steelworker Apprentice you will be trained to use various types of tools and machinery used in the forming of steel plate.

These will range from hand tools such as: scribes, dividers, hammer etc., to large presses and state of the art Computer aided burning machines.

Other skills you will be taught in the steelwork environment will include, burning, welding and slinging. Steelworkers progress on to establishing datum points, levels setting key alignment of components during fabrication and construction.

Accurate dimensional control is essential. You will use increasing levels of technology which includes theodolites, dumpy levels, laser levels and 3D laser projection from engineering design data".
