What you will do in your working day

Crabbick Farm is a busy livery yard with 25 stables, located on the edge of Denmead, Hampshire who have a small but friendly supportive team to welcome a new apprentice with equine experience.

They are looking for a reliable and punctual individual who is not afraid of hard work in all weathers.

Main duties on the yard will be;

  • Attending to the day to day care of the full livery horses
  • Mucking and skipping out
  • Feeding
  • Hay and watering
  • Changing rugs
  • Turn out and bring in
  • Grooming

There will also be opportunities to learn about breeding and support with mares and foals.

Although this is not offered as a riding position there may be opportunities for an apprentice to ride or learn to drive horses if they wish.

There may be opportunities to attend shows and events as a groom including stay away shows for the right candidate.

They would like someone with passion and drive who is committed to working in the industry. They will support you in achieving your goals and aspirations if you are willing to put the effort in to achieve them.

The training you will be getting

You will be working towards the Level 2 Equine Groom apprenticeship with the employer at the employers premises, and supported by Haddon Training.

You will also be supported in completing Functional Skills in maths and/ or English if required.

What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship

Crabbick Farm hope to be able to offer any apprentices a full time position at the end of their apprenticeship, they also employ a head groom and a yard manager so there is room for career progression!

Things to consider

There is no accommodation available on site, so you must be able to make your own way to and from the yard reliably each day. Also please note that Crabbick Farm do not allow the use of mobile phones/headphones etc to be used during working hours.
