What you will do in your working day

It’s an apprenticeship like no other as you immerse yourself in a variety of manufacturing, assembly, and testing activities for a wide array of mechanical equipment used in the nuclear industry. From hands-on practical training, mastering hand and machine tools, to fitting and testing, every day will be a new learning experience. 
 
As part of our friendly and supportive team, you’ll get involved in: 

  • Engaging in diverse manufacturing processes
  • Assembling and testing mechanical equipment
  • Gaining expertise in hand and machine tools
  • Undertaking tasks at our Whetstone facility and occasionally at customer sites

By the end of your apprenticeship, you'll have a wealth of knowledge and skills, setting you up for a promising career in mechanical manufacturing within the nuclear sector. 

The training you will be getting

  • You’ll receive practical and theoretical training, combined with company-specific training given in the workplace
     
  • At Loughborough College, you'll work towards the Level 3 Engineering Fitter Apprenticeship standard, which includes an NVQ Level 3. This ensures that your time on the apprenticeship is a blend of both theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience

What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship

  • Upon completion of the apprenticeship, you will move into a substantive position within the business

Things to consider

Many of our early careers roles are subject to Security Clearance and Trade Control restrictions which mean that your place of birth, nationality, citizenship, or residency you hold may impact which roles you are eligible for. You must be able to achieve BPSS (Baseline security) and many of them require you to be eligible for Security Clearance.
