What you will do in your working day

Working with the Site Team:

Support the planning, preparation and delivery of property maintenance tasks, including:

  • Distribute consumable items
  • Ensure that classroom fixtures and fittings are maintained to a safe standard
  • Remove graffiti
  • Ensure that the site is safe to move around, inc. sweeping leaves, clearing snow and picking litter
  • Preparing the School Hall for parents meetings, exams, school functions
  • Monitoring security arrangements during and outside normal school hours
  • Ensuring that the buildings are cleaned to the agreed standard by monitoring the work of the contract cleaning staff
  • Other site maintenance tasks as required by the site supervisor or deputy
  • Carry out preventative and corrective maintenance, minor repairs and replacement of components within water, environmental and energy management systems in accordance with current legislation
  • Create a safe working environment and reporting of risks and hazards
  • Utilise reporting software to complete requested property maintenance tasks and report minor repairs
  • Carry out painting and decorating works to a range of surfaces
  • Carry out minor tiling and flooring repairs using a variety of materials, tools, adhesives and sealants
  • Carry out repairs to buildings to make them safe and secure for their occupants or clients
  • Safely isolate electrical, electronic and emergency systems to enable property maintenance operations to be performed around isolated electrical components
  • Perform fault diagnostics to implement plumbing and drainage repairs
  • Use carpentry and joinery skills to complete minor repairs to fixtures such as doors, windows, frames, worktops
  • Carry out minor plastering repairs
  • Keep the minibuses clean and tidy
  • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing to liaise with other team members
  • Operating the school’s CCTV equipment according to the Code of Practice
  • Complete appropriate Health and Safety training, ensuring all tasks are carried out to meet appropriate standards and communicating safe practice to staff

Working with the Technology Department:

  • Supporting in delivering a high level of technical support to the Resistant Materials areas
  • Preparation and allocation of materials and equipment for students’ projects and exams
  • Maintenance of inventories of materials, faculty tools and machinery, workshop furniture
  • Cleaning of storerooms
  • Outputting designs from digital file to Laser / Vinyl and 3D Printer as requested by dept teachers

The training you will be getting

Apprentices will be required to attend college at least x1 day per week at Harrow Weald Campus completing necessary mandatory training and units associated with the apprenticeship.

The apprentice will be required to complete:

  • Work towards gaining a full Level 2 Property Maintenance Operations Apprenticeship Qualification
  • Employment Rights and Responsibilities
  • Skills, Knowledge, and Behaviours
  • Standard and End Point Assessment
  • Functional Skills in English, Maths, and ICT (if required)

Other training will be provided by the employer as required to enable the fulfilment of the job role.

What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship

For the right apprentice, there is the possibility of being trained to deputy manager or manager level within the role, in the long term, as this is a part of our succession planning.
