What you will do in your working day

We are looking for a L4 Quantity Surveyor apprentice to work from the main office of a large Construction contractor in Cambridgeshire.

This apprenticeship will focus mainly on estimating and quantity surveying. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who would like to learn about the commercial side of construction.

The qualification will also include elements of:

  • Law and Planning Procedures

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Obtaining all cost information including estimating data and any quotations used tenders
  • Starting up financial files
  • Obtaining and agreeing procurement schedules
  • Raising draft invoices to accounts department
  • Producing projected sales forecast when the valuation dates are known
  • Setting up valuation format based around the tender document
  • Submitting valuations to the client in accordance with the valuation dates
  • Obtaining payment certificates
  • Ensuring accounts raise invoices
  • Placing sub-contract orders
  • Submitting cost value reconciliations
  • Invoice retention release
  • Attend regular internal contract review meetings
  • Value all variations and submit to the client
  • Instruct sub-contracts for variations – obtain a quotation where possible
  • Raise sub-contract payments
  • Agree final accounts with sub-contractors
  • Visit site regularly
  • Chase and obtain final retention releases

The training you will be getting

Alongside training on site, the apprentice will attend off site training sessions at the training provider in block sessions and receive online tutor led sessions.

They will work towards a Level 4 Quantity Surveying Technician qualification.

Things to consider

Offer of employment subject to passing of drugs & alcohol test. CSCS card needed- assistance will be given to achieve this. Due to site locations, the apprentice will need own transport & be able to get to site/pick up point independently. Local council requirements dictate the apprentice will need to reside in postal areas CO1 through to CO8.

Training & Apprenticeships in Construction Ltd (TrAC) is a DfE approved Flexi Job Apprenticeship Agency who will employ you for the duration of the apprenticeship and pay your salary. You should be aware that you will be placed with a host employer but you will not be employed by them. Your placement may change during the course of your apprenticeship but TrAC will employ you throughout, as well as continuing to support you into employment or further learning at the end of your apprenticeship.
