What you will do in your working day

The successful candidate will be part of a dynamic and enthusiastic team providing over-the-counter and prescription pharmaceutical services to the local community. 

Helping with day-to-day tasks, such as consultations, dispensing medicine and general admin, the suitable candidate will be spending their time in both the shopfront retail and dispensary sides of the pharmacy.

Other tasks may include;

  • Provide a high standard of customer service, in order to attract and retain customers
  • Dispenses prescription medication and other medical products to patients under direction of licensed pharmacist
  • Receive and check in prescriptions, ensuring details are legible and complete and collecting appropriate levy or verifying exemption
  • Performs duties, including answering phones, processing orders, e-mail correspondence
  • Monitors prescription-filling process to ensure compliance with relevant regulations and pharmacy policies
  • Receive incoming stock and store it correctly, completing documentation, minimising damage and effectively rotating stock to minimise expired stock, notifying suppliers of any discrepancies
  • Liaises with healthcare providers and patients to obtain correct prescription information
  • Answers patients' questions about their medications under the supervision of the pharmacist
  • Carry out good housekeeping procedures regularly and effectively, including duties on any cleaning rota
  • Refer customers on to other healthcare professionals, including the pharmacist

The training you will be getting

Apprentices will be required to produce work and build an e-portfolio of evidence through blended learning which will include practical and written knowledge assessments which are carried out in the workplace.

Pharmacy Services Assistant Level 2 Apprenticeship Standard.

Level 2 functional skills in maths and English (if required).

End-Point Assessment (EPA).

Apprentices will be required to produce work and build an e-portfolio of evidence through blended learning which will include practical and written knowledge assessments which are carried out in the workplace.

There will be an (EPA) end point assessment at the end of the apprenticeship.

What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship

On completion of the Intermediate Apprenticeship, individuals will have the opportunity to apply to progress on to the Advanced Apprenticeship, they may also be offered full-time employment by the employer.
