Ball Packaging are seeking an Apprentice Development Engineer to join their team. You will be introduced to the world of Can making on a global scale and be provided with a multi-disciplined training program that will cover various aspects of Engineering, Manufacturing and Quality control of the most sustainable drinks packaging. Duties will include; You will support special projects in Can manufacturing through the design, specifications and purchasing of equipment used to make Aluminum drinks cans. You will support Can manufacturing facilities to improve quality, efficiency, spoilage reduction and operating costs by reviewing tooling design and tool room equipment. Largely computer based work using Microsoft applications, email's, understanding drawings and specifications.

What you will do in your working day

  • You will be introduced to the world of Can making on a global scale and be provided with a multi-disciplined training program that will cover various aspects of Engineering, Manufacturing and Quality control of the most sustainable drinks packaging.
  • You will help the department to achieve material cost
    reduction by improving processes, updating specifications and new tooling trials to allow thinner and lighter Aluminium drinks cans to be made.
  • You will support special projects in Can manufacturing through the design, specifications and purchasing of equipment used to make Aluminium drinks cans.
  • You will support Can manufacturing facilities to improve quality, efficiency, spoilage reduction and operating costs by reviewing tooling design and tool room equipment.
  • Largely computer based work using Microsoft applications, email's, understanding drawings and specifications.
  • Some practical and Metrology (measurement) work
  • Mainly office based, but some travel to support engineers (Europe)

Qualifications included:

  • Engineering Technician - Apprenticeship Standard.
  • Company Training Plan.
  • Level 2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing & Engineering Foundation Competencies (full time at college for Year 1)
  • Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering - Development Knowledge (1 day per week for 2 years at college)
  • Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering - Development Competence (workplace)
  • Level 2 Functional Skills- Maths (if required)
  • Level 2 Functional Skills - English (if required)
  • End Point Assessment
